Myth Busters

Myth Busters

When you fundamentally change the way a truck bed works, you can expect to get some haters. And we’ve heard plenty from the self-proclaimed experts online. So without further ado, let’s get to busting some of the most common myths we hear about DECKED.

1. “TAKES UP YOUR BED SPACE.”

Saying that DECKED Drawers take up bed space is kind of like saying that a hot tub takes up yard space. It’s technically true, but kind of misses the point. DECKED Drawers occupy the bottom 12” of your truck bed, yes. But they give you so much more back (kinda like the hot tub). You gain an absolutely massive amount of secure and weatherproof storage space below the deck. Plus you gain the side access areas and stash bins for organization. And you can still move 2,000 lb of cargo on top (1,000 for midsize), just like you could in a naked truck bed. For some tasks, like moving plywood and other sheeting, DECKED will simply improve your life, since the deck is flat and sits above the wheel wells for extra width. And if you’re hauling large objects, the built-in d-rings let you strap down any heavy loads that might sit above the bed.

We realize there might be times when an empty bed would be better — like when you need to haul a couple yards of wood chips. Here’s the good news: The Drawer System can be removed in 15 minutes, and you’ve got your original, naked truck bed back for hauling.

There will always be the person who needs to move piles of rocks every day, and for them DECKED Drawers might not be the best solution. But for the average truck owner — looking to stay organized, secure tools and gear outside their cab, and switch from one activity to another fast — DECKED Drawers will be well worth it.

2. “THEY’RE MADE OF CHEAP PLASTIC.”

There’s a simple reason why we build DECKED Drawer Systems out of high-density polyethylene, with a galvanized steel frame: Because it makes a better product than all metal or wood.

Better how? Thanks for asking.

Better as in lighter, stronger, more durable, much more resistant to denting, and more space efficient. We’re able to mold parts that conform to your individual truck bed just right. And we’re able to design systems that give you the maximum use of every nook and cranny to achieve organizational nirvana. Plus, they’re completely resistant to wind, water, sun, dirt, and disparaging internet comments.

And just for the record: We are not anti-metal. We use metal for CargoGilde, and we think it’s the best possible material for that application. And if you’re still skeptical, remember: We mold every DECKED Drawer System at our very own molding facility in the USA, and we have extremely high quality control standards. Plus, we offer a lifetime warranty on every product.

3. “WON’T MY STUFF GET WET?”

DECKED Drawer Systems are 100% weatherproof. What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means that we can’t legally say they’re “waterproof,” because then somebody would back their truck into a lake and try to sue us. But we can say that they are absolutely built to withstand rain, snow, wind and dust. 365 days a year. In all normal and even abnormal conditions. For many years to come.

We’ve heard from hundreds of customers that they’ve run their DECKED Drawers through car washes, rain storms, and hurricanes without so much as a drop of water getting into the drawer. But, just for fun, we tried dumping several hundred gallons of water from a front end loader onto the Drawers of one of our trucks. Well... enjoy the results.

4. “INSTALLATION IS A PAIN.”

e get it: DECKED Drawers are big. Your truck wasn’t cheap. And you don’t want to screw this up. But the people saying that installation is a pain in the a** really need to find a new hobby. Because if you follow the instructions provided with your Drawer System, and watch our installation video, we guarantee you’ll be able to do it.

The process takes about two hours, and it’s better if you have a buddy for the heavy lifting parts. Take a look at our installation videos for Full-Size and Midsize here. And, if you just don’t want to bother with the hassle, you can find a store in your area to do the installation for you.
