Here's Why.
If it’s broken, fix it. That’s what kickstarted the sketches that would eventually become the all-new DECKED Tool Box. What we came away with was the best truck bed tool box ever made. It’s dent-proof, rust-proof, weather-proof, theft-proof, UV-proof, fool-proof, and made to work as hard as you do.
Want more proof? By all means, read on.
So, what exactly was broken that needed to be fixed? The short answer is also the right answer: every tool box ever made. Ever since those diamond-plated tool boxes came on the market in the 1960s, little has changed. For decades, they’ve been moving from the truck bed to the backyard, turning into rusty above-ground pools that had the best intentions at the start, but quickly failed at their only purpose on the planet: to be f*cking useful.
That’s where we come in. Sure, we released our own Tool Box, but we knew we could do better. We knew hard-working folks like yourself needed us to do better, so that’s exactly what we did. It started as a sketch, and now we’re proud to announce a tool box unlike any you’ve ever seen before. We really mean it. There’s never been a Tool Box like this, and we have the chops to prove it. Let’s dive in.
There’s Never Been a Tool Box This Durable
When we made our list of problems the all-new DECKED Tool Box had to solve, this was enemy number one. In order to keep tool boxes at a reasonable weight, other companies have been using diamond-plated aluminum for forever. Take a drive around any neighborhood where hard workin’ folks live, and you’ll see the result. These things worked for a while until they became warped, rusty, leaky, and completely useless—now they’re living out a lonesome retirement as the worst yard art this side of the 1991 Camry.
So, we mixed things up. The DECKED Tool Box is made from Compression Molded Glass Fiber Reinforced Polyester Sheet Molding Compound (or, compression-molded resin if you’re into the whole brevity thing). This magical material is as light as aluminum and as strong as steel. The lid alone holds 300 lbs, not to mention the 800-lb payload in the tub. In short, this Tool Box won’t rust. It won’t dent. It won’t warp. It won’t crack. It won’t let you down.
There’s Never Been a Tool Box This Weather-Proof
Another benefit of the compression-molded process is the “compression” itself. The tub of the Tool Box is made from one single piece of material. There are no welds or seams in sight, which means we took the perennial weather problem that tool boxes have been facing for 50 years and threw it out the window. There simply isn’t a way for the weather to find its way in.
Plus, compression-molded resin is resistant to UV rays. That means you can park your truck at the job site all day every day, and that fresh-off-the-factory-floor color won’t fade into oblivion after a few years of service. Much like that barn cat that simply won’t die, the DECKED Tool Box is here to stay, and you don’t have to feed it a damn thing.
There’s Never Been a Tool Box This Intuitive
Once we had the durability problem solved, it was time for us to have some real fun. We had the blueprint for the best Tool Box ever made, but it was time to put the icing on the cake and say goodnight to those diamond-plated parasites once and for all.
Most notably, we created the most intuitive linkage system ever made. We included our one-touch START Button (a.k.a. Single Touch Action Reaction Technology — the marketing team can’t be stopped) accompanied with gas struts. In English, this means you could bump the button with an elbow and the lid will open with a buttery smooth action like an elevator door, and will close smooth and softly like your grandma’s toilet seat. No more loud-banging or fumbling for a free hand while you’re carrying an armful of tools.
Next, the gas-strut linkage is designed to fold completely out of the way of the Tool Box’s opening, making for a wide-open point of entry when loading and unloading your cargo. Last but not least, we designed the profile to be as low as possible without sacrificing storage space, which means you’ll actually be able to see out of your truck’s back window.
There’s Never Been a Tool Box This Hated by Thieves
We all live in the real world, which means there are human tools trying to come after your actual tools. If you’ve ever been on a job site you know that aluminum tool boxes scream “come and get it, boys” louder than a YETI cooler in a Walmart parking lot. Well, sorry to disappoint the miscreants, but the all-new DECKED Tool Box is one tough son of a b*tch.
We built a steel torsion box into the lid for two reasons. First, it adds stability to the lid to prevent any warping. Second, it is the sworn enemy of pry bars everywhere. One look at the lid on this tool box, and the tool thieves will be scanning the job site for a much easier target. Yep, aluminum tool boxes. And no, we won’t stop talking sh*t about them. Pair all of this with a few tamper-resistant locks, and you have a tool box that’s easy for you to open — and no one else.
There’s Never Been a Tool Box This Functional
To put a tidy bow on the design of the all-new DECKED Tool Box, we wanted it to be a part of the big, happy DECKED family. The internal structure is built to place nicely with our Halfrack 32, Payloader, and Sixer D-co Cases — not to mention the Milwaukee PACKOUT Organizer™ — which means you can easily transport tools to and from work without needing to unload individual pieces each and every time. It’s just another layer of weatherproof versatility designed to make your life easier.
The Tool Box also has space for optional DECKED Tool Hooks, which create even more loadout options for hoses, extension cords, cables, and large tools. We also included four D-ring Tiedown locations so you’re not sacrificing the cargo capabilities of your truck bed.
Speaking of which, you don’t have to sacrifice anything to get the best Tool Box ever made. We designed it to work with any full-size truck, as well its corresponding CargoGlide System. You can even pair the Tool Box with a 6.5ft DECKED Drawer System in an 8ft truck bed, making you the organizational envy of every subcontractor on the job site.
All in all, it’s safe to say we’re pretty proud of the all-new DECKED Tool Box. Not only because it’s the best tool box ever made, but because it’s the only tool box our hard-working customers will ever have to buy. That was the catalyst for this whole thing. Turns out it was a great idea on paper, and an even better idea when we put it in a truck.
