How Secure is DECKED?

How Secure is DECKED?

DECKED Systems are engineered to make your gear secure. By keeping your valuables out of sight — and locked behind a tailgate or cargo hatch — you’re creating multiple barriers between your stuff and the thieves who want to take it. Add a few sets of optional DECKED Locks, and you have the most secure storage systems on the planet. Let’s pry open this can of worms, and learn just how we make it happen.

It’s a big world out there, and it can seem like the majority of it wants to get to your gear. Whether you bring your work truck at the job site, leave your SUV at the trailhead for a long hike, or simply like to park your rig in the driveway, you’re a target for the tools who want to get to your literal tools. It sucks, but that’s just the world we live in.

At DECKED, we live in the same world as you. Ask anyone around our HQ and you’ll probably find someone who knows the feeling of walking up to broken glass on the ground. It sucks, which is why we’ve done just about everything we can to beef up your daily driver’s security in just about any situation.

Is it a silver bullet against theft? No. But, we’ve engineered storage solutions that can make it pretty damn hard (and discouraging) for folks whose moral compass doesn’t point in the same direction as yours — and sometimes, that’s all it takes. Today, we’re running through a few key ways that DECKED Systems can keep your stuff safer from just about anything that’s out to ruin your day — weather included.

Better Make Your Bed

There are obvious ways to keep thieves out — which we’ll get to in a bit — but thieves are generally well aware of those because, well, they’re obvious. In our books, the best kind of security is the kind that thieves never saw coming. Better yet, they never saw it at all.

When you install a DECKED Drawer System in your truck bed, you’re adding a layer of security you may not even be aware of. Ask yourself this question: how many times have you noticed a Drawer System in a parking lot or a trailhead? If the tailgate’s up, you probably never even knew it was there.

One of the most common reasons thieves break into vehicles is because they see something they want — an expensive tool sitting on the backseat, or camera gear not-so-secretly tucked under the front seat. When you move your expensive gear into a DECKED Drawer System, you’re moving it out of sight, which is step one in preventing theft.

The second step comes standard with every Drawer System. Whether you drive a truck or SUV, there’s a tailgate or cargo hatch blocking the handle to your system. Hopefully, you’ve noticed that those suckers lock, too, which means thieves have to break in before they can even think about breaking in.

If you’ve ever tried prying down a tailgate, it’s not easy. Busting out the glass to get into a cargo hatch is loud and risky by itself. In other words, it creates one massive pain in the ass for thieves, which is probably the best deterrent you could put in front of them. If they’re scummy enough to steal someone’s stuff, they’re probably lazy, too.

Loaded and Locked

Okay, so maybe your thief is ambitious. He gave up climbing the corporate ladder or studying for the BAR exam and decided to steal your stuff out of the parking lot. At DECKED, we offer optional locks for many of our systems, which creates yet another barrier to entry.

When you add DECKED Locks to your storage, you’re creating a one-two-three punch of protection against theft: keeping valuables out of sight, behind a locked door, and inside a locked storage space. If a thief wants to get through all of that, they’re either going to be successful or caught by a security guard. Either way, it’s out of your hands.

DECKED Locks are made from stainless steel and built to withstand all kinds of shady behavior. Better yet, they can be installed easily in just a few minutes.

Here are all of the ways you can use them to secure your stuff:

And these DECKED products come with locks pre-installed for added security:

All DECKED products are over-engineered and over-built, which means they’re not easy to break into, no matter how motivated your local kleptomaniac may be. But, when you add DECKED Locks to the mix, you’re making it damn-near impossible.

Think Inside the Box

One of the most common targets for theft are behind-the-cab tool boxes. These shiny aluminum tubs are beacons of hope for thieves that say, “valuable tools inside,” when they reflect sunshine. They may as well say “free stuff.”

When we released the DECKED Tool Box, our goal was to improve on just about everything when it comes to truck tool boxes. So, we made it rust-proof, dent-proof, weatherproof, and theft-proof by beefing up the construction in key ways to keep your gear in and everything else out. First, we incorporate burly, stainless steel DECKED Locks into the one-touch S.T.A.R.T. Button so you can lock your tools away when you’re not around. But, as we just mentioned, sometimes that’s not enough. We don’t want to just slow down these thieves. We want to break their spirit.

Pop open the lid of the DECKED Tool Box, and you’ll find the steel torsion box under the lid. It prevents the lid from warping and allows for a 300-lb payload on the lid. On top of that, it makes for an absolute nightmare if a thief comes at it with a crowbar, preventing them from lifting the lid to tamper with the lock or break the lid altogether.

Do aluminum tool boxes keep thieves out? Maybe. But we all know that when it comes to security, “maybe,” doesn’t cut it. In fact, “maybe” makes for sleepless nights, peeking out the window to check on your truck, and double-clicking the lock button for the third time. When you buy with DECKED, you’re getting peace of mind when it comes to protecting your gear.

Keep Everything Out

If you think humans are hard to stop, just wait for the weather. Thieves suck, but nothing ruins your tools and gear faster than water, dust, ice, and sun. We all know that you can’t break Mother Nature’s spirit, so we just had to outsmart her.

We’ve engineered the majority of our products to be completely weatherproof, including our Drawer Systems, CargoGlide, Tool Box, Protective Cases, and Rugged Bins. From gasketed liners to lid-to-tub interfaces that fit perfectly, our product development teams have gone the extra mile to make sure the elements stay exactly where you want them.

In fact, we heavily test and abuse our products in our Defiance, Ohio factories to ensure they stay that way over time. Our Test & Validation team is made up of fiendish masochists who live for putting our products through the ringer — and we’re happy to say that every single one you see on our site has survived the gauntlet and been released into the wild.

Are we guaranteeing that no one will ever steal your stuff again? No. Drawer Systems made out of impenetrable steel wouldn’t be great for your gas mileage, but we guarantee that we’ll make it a huge pain for them to even try. We know sh*t happens. A lot of that sh*t has happened to us, too, but here’s the thing: we use and trust DECKED products as much as DECKED customers use and trust our products. That means if we keep our gear safe, we’ll keep your gear safe, and piss off a lot of thieves in the process. Mission accomplished.
