Built to Clock In

Some trucks are built to turn heads. Some to go deep into the backcountry and stay awhile.

This one was built to get to work.

"The goal was never to build the biggest or craziest truck," says Thor Rippey of his 2022 GMC Sierra AT4. "I just wanted the ultimate contractor's truck."

That distinction shapes everything about this truck. Working construction in a city means tight streets, one-way roads, and jobsites where towing a trailer creates more problems than it solves. A cargo van could sidestep the trailer issue entirely, but Thor wanted something with more capability, and admittedly more personality, than a van offers. So instead of adding a trailer or upsizing, he built everything he needed directly into the truck itself. No towing required.

The bed is the foundation: a DECKED Drawer System keeps tools organized and immediately accessible, topped with a high-friction DECKED Battle Mat so nothing shifts around between stops. From there, Thor took a Voodoo Fabrications bed rack and dialed it in with a custom ladder rack and Milwaukee PACKOUT Mounting Plates, converting the rack into an additional layer of secured tool storage stacked above the Drawers. Above the cab, an UpTop Overland roof rack adds another full tier of storage. That’s a lot of gear, so Thor added Timbren Bumpstops to keep the truck riding right, along with security features like a 24/7 3-way camera and ONE-KEY Bluetooth tool-trackers.

The result fits Thor’s vision dead on: a compact footprint that still shows up to the jobsite with everything on board. It’s a damn good-looking truck, but nothing about it was meant to be the wildest rig in the lot. It just needed to get the job done.
