Good Fishing Isn’t Guaranteed. Good Eating Is.
Some truck builds are optimized for crawling. Some for chasing podiums. Some trucks are built for long-term overland travel, while some are built just for looks.
Rory has optimized his truck for the most important objective of all: eating good far from home.
Growing up in San Diego, food and fishing weren’t just hobbies. They were a lifestyle. Think: smoked bluefin, tri-tip, pulled pork — all served from the lid of a bait tank. After he and his family made the move to Utah, the Bait Tank Buffet needed to evolve to a more terrestrial version.
Enter the 2020 Silverado 1500. The purpose of this build is to keep the Taylor gang safe and comfortable, on and off the road, en route to their favorite spots. Sensible performance upgrades like a modest lift with 35” tires help keep the snatch strap from having to be deployed, while additions like a rooftop tent and water tank keep it feeling like home. But the camp kitchen on this rig? That’s where things get fun.
Rory knows exactly where his priorities lie, and has brought the Bait Tank Buffet into the backcountry in bold style: with a custom-installed Traeger Grill on a Westcott Designs rear swing-out. Add to that his fly-rod carrier and a stocked cooler for backup, and you best believe anyone lucky enough to roll with Rory is eating better than they do at home.
As for his Drawer System, it’s been nothing short of game-changing. Beyond carrying fly-fishing gear and grilling necessities, Rory’s drawers now house his recovery gear full-time. That may not seem revolutionary on paper. But he previously didn’t carry that gear daily, only packing it for dedicated trips. Now it’s always on board, and it’s already paid off: just ask any of the snow-stuck motorists he’s plucked from the brink of a long, cold night in the canyons.
The game has officially changed.
