The Rangework Production Rig
There used to be a time when you had to go to Hollywood to make a movie. Nowadays, guys like Nic Thielmann of Rangework Film Company can handle the whole production from the tailgate of a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. Nic traverses the rugged landscapes of Western Canada year-round in his “Production Rig” — hunting, hiking, fishing, and making films about the outdoors and badass brands. He’s spent many a night cooking dinners on the tailgate and sleeping tight in the camper above.
For a guy who spends so much time in the field, Nic’s chosen a pretty minimal setup. Just a Go Fast Camper, DECKED Drawer System, some retro wheels, and the biggest tires he can clear on stock suspension.
Why? Because keeping it simple gets him out the door faster, and lets him go further down the wild Canadian logging roads. Nic also loves the first-gen aesthetic, and didn’t want to dilute it with too many futuristic-looking accessories. Plus, let’s be honest: that motor is a lot happier without a ton of add-ons.
Even though Nic’s Canadian, he’s a big believer in the old Benjamin Franklin adage: "For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned." He keeps a tight ship by running a Drawer System with dedicated D-co Cases.
“Most of the time I keep my DECKED packed up with everything I’d need to spend the night wherever I end up, cook a meal, and troubleshoot any mechanical issues if the rig ever broke down. I keep a Halfrack case full of camp kitchen supplies, one packed with blankets and warm clothing, a Sixer case full of basic survival kit (flashlights, fire starter, water filter, etc.) and another Sixer with a set of ratchets, sockets and wrenches.”
