1. GENERAL QUESTIONS (33)

Does DECKED fit mid size trucks like the Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado/Canyon or Frontier?

We are in the works for midsize trucks including Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado/Canyon, Frontier, Hilux and Amarok. We are anticipating to roll-out with that DECKED system in mid 2017, stay tuned on social media or sign up for our email newsletter for the exact release date and also more information on compatible years, makes and models. Several of us have midsize trucks here at HQ so we are anxiously awaiting the midsize system as well!

Is the Aluminum F150 Light Switch Compatible with DECKED?

The bed lights on the new aluminum F150 reside above the DECKED system.

The switch for the bed lights located on the left (driver’s side) bed wall do reside beneath the DECKED system; however, it is accessible by reaching to the left side of the ammo can in that location. You can trigger the switch here, or you can turn on and off with the switch located in the cab of your truck.

The box cleat system on the F150 also resides above the DECKED surface, however the ramp option for this system cannot be used in conjunction with DECKED.

Will the DECKED System fit my extended van?

DECKED does not sell system for extended vans. With the extended body, the DECKED System sits too far forward of the rear door opening and it was not ergonomically feasible.

Will the DECKED System fit in my Transit with dual rear wheels?

This system WILL NOT FIT extended vans or Transit vans with dual rear wheels. The dual rear wheels will protrude inbound into the space where our drawers reside.

What does a 2000 lb load rating mean?

The DECKED system can hold a load of 2000 lb, distributed evenly.  Furthermore, DECKED’s load rating is designed for a “real world” 2000 lb. What does this mean? If you hit a pothole, that will significantly increase the stress on DECKED for a moment in time and the system can handle that. Lastly, if your load is not evenly distributed, you might overload the system. For instance, if you placed 2000 lb onto the DECKED system on a 4′ x 4′ pallet, then the loading per sf is about double what our system is designed to handle.  There’s nothing magical here, just good engineering and known limits. If you plan to place concentrated and/or very heavy loads on the decks, you might add a thick piece of plywood to spread the load over that larger area.

What truck models and years does the DECKED system fit?

DECKED fits 17 of the 18 full size pickup trucks on the market, dating back to the late 1990’s – but no 8′ beds or stepside/flareside beds.

Flairside-ford-150-300x157

The only truck we do not fit is the full size four-door, short bed (5′ 6″) Ford F-150 SuperCrew made from 2001 through 2003 (2004 badged as the SuperCrew Heritage) that has the rounded tailgate and smaller sized bed dimensions.

Fit Chart:
faq-truckbed-sizing

Does the DECKED system fit the Chevy Avalanche?

No. The Chevy Avalanche’s bed dimensions are too narrow for DECKED.

Does DECKED make a system for SUVs or Jeeps?

Not at this time. We have added these ideas to our product review process.

What is the height of the DECKED system from the truck bed to the top of the deck?

The DECKED system measures 12 inches in height as measured from the top of bed ribs to the top of the DECKED system.

Why HDPE?

DECKED spent 18 months investigating materials that would work. HDPE is a common material that, when formed with DECKED’s proprietary tools and process, results in an unusually durable, rigid and weatherproof system. We add a UV enhancer to the material to protect it from the sun’s harmful rays. When this material is precision formed, meticulously engineered, and supported by a steel sub frame, the result is DECKED.

Is the DECKED system made from recycled materials?

The DECKED system is made from 100% recycled HDPE and mostly recycled steel.

How much weight can I put on the DECKED system?

The DECKED system can handle a true 2,000 LBS. deck load rating. DECKED can handle just about anything your factory truck bed can withstand. However, this isn’t a license to shut off your brain. If you drop a 2,000 LBS. cannonball on the deck it will damage it, just like it would wreck your truck bed.

What are the drawer measurements?

There are two key sets of drawer measurements, upper and lower, for the DECKED system.

Upper drawer measurements are 61.4″ x 18″ x 8.5″ for the short bed and 72.1″ x 18″ x 8.5″ for the standard length system.

Lower drawer measurements are 55.4″ x 16.75″ x 8.5″ for the short bed and 66.1″ x 16.75″ x 8.5″ for the standard length system.

How much does the DECKED system weigh?

Depending on your bed length, the DECKED system will weigh either 200 lb for the short bed or 220 lb for the standard bed system.

Will my spray in bed liner cause a problem?

Nope. We designed the DECKED system with spray-in bed liners in mind. We have taken into account the normal additional volume and created enough lateral space to accommodate a spray-in liner (unless your installer went crazy with the amount of material they added to your truck bed) you should be fine.

Note: some of our systems require that you replace the factory tie-down brackets. You will need to heat up the spray-in material, cut around the tie-down bracket and then peel the spray-in material away. It is recommended that you use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the spray-in material. Once you have removed the bracket, you can install the new bracket that comes with your DECKED system.

Can I keep my plastic drop-in bed liner?

No, because we have engineered our DECKED system to fit your bed tightly, your plastic bed liner will have to go.

How waterproof is the DECKED system?

The DECKED system is designed to live outside. Rain won’t get water into your drawers. However, there is a gap between the top of the drawer and the drawer wheel channels which can allow airborne mist (or dust, or fine particulate snow) into the drawers.

What does weatherproof drawer mean?

DECKED drawers are weatherproof, but you can still get some water in them as they don’t seal like Tupperware. Anything that is airborne, like mist, dust, or really fine particle snow can get in the drawers – usually in small amounts. In most cases the drawers will stay dry, but please use caution (e.g. car washes). Also, the four ammo cans are not waterproof, but you can drill drain holes in the bottoms if you wish.

Short water test video of the DECKED system:

Are the ammo cans waterproof?

The DECKED ammo cans are not waterproof, they are structural elements that are located in each corner of the DECKED system. These also act as secondary storage bins, but the ammo cans are not waterproof. There are dimples in the bottom of each ammo can that allow you to drill drain holes, or not, depending on your preference.

Can you puncture the DECKED system?

You can puncture the deck if you drop quite heavy (50+ lbs.) or pointy objects from about 3 feet above the deck. Basically, anything that would cause your truck’s metal bed to get bent or punctured, might puncture the deck. No normal use will cause the deck to get punctured, the HPDE and steel are stout.

I noticed that the spacing around my DECKED system is not consistent. Why not?

The DECKED system is precision formed to match the as-designed geometry & dimensions of your truck. Unfortunately, truck beds aren’t manufactured perfectly. They vary from left to right, and the bed, is usually not perfectly flat. If you center your DECKED unit perfectly on the center rib (or trough) of your truck bed, and there is variation in the deck-edge gap, then that’s just cuz’ your bed isn’t square.

On my Ford truck I have the tailgate step and handle, will these get in the way of my DECKED system?

The 2014 F150 and prior Ford models in addition to the current Super Duty models with the factory step have a bump on the driver’s side of the open tailgate, which will interfere with the opening of the DECKED drawer on that side. The 2015 F150 models have the improved step and do not have a bump on the tailgate. The tailgate step will not impact the installation or use of your DECKED system. However, DECKED will interfere with the handle because that part causes the tailgate to have a big bump in it that the DECKED drawers will hit.

There are three possibilities for a successful installation:

1) If you already have a spray-in liner, your DECKED may reside high enough so that the drawer clears the handle.

2) You can purchase cable extenders to offset the ramp angle of your tailgate. We have not tested this product, but here are some more details so you can see if this will work for your needs. Hope this helps!Rider Tailgate Accessories has developed an innovative new truck accessory called the Tailgate Lowering Links which, when added to the existing tailgate support cables on a truck, allow the tailgate to lay flat.

For example, the tailgate on a 2013 Ford Super Duty is about 1.5 inches higher than the bed. With the Rider Tailgate accessory, model FD1, the Links allow the tailgate to lay flat or about 1.5 inches lower than the level of the bed.

Rider Tailgate Links are constructed to allow the tailgate to be lowered without the tailgate contacting the bumper. The amount of tailgate drop varies from 3 to 5.25 inches depending on the truck. This patented product is the only product on the market that lets consumers lower, and use, their tailgate in a position that is lower than the conventional open position.
Rider Tailgate Lowering Links are engineered for strength and performance. To learn more about this innovative patented product or to see what other truck models they fit, call at 801-678-1405 or visit their website at www.ridertailgate.com
Check out this post for an option that allows you to lower the ramp angle of your tailgate….Link to FAQ post.

3)You can easily remove the handle and purchase the following Ford part(s) to cover up the opening where the handle resides:

F150 – AL3Z 99000A38 EB. Retail – $64.29
F250 – AC3Z 99000A38 AA. Retail – $64.29

F150 Platinum: If you have the Platinum version (prior to 2015 – non aluminum) of the F150 and the tailgate step, using the tailgate extenders can result in the Platinum plate hitting the bumper and marring the plate. Removing the handle may be a better option for this application.

I have a 2004 F-150, I noticed that in your product list that two 2004 F150’s show up. How do I know which F150 I have and which DECKED system fits my truck?

2004 was a transition year for Ford and as such they produced old and new body styles in the 2004 model year with a 6’6″ bed length. So, for a time, both body types were being sold as 2004 models.

If you do NOT have a stepped down passenger and driver side door windows, you have the older F-150, or “Heritage” version. If this is the case, select the DECKED product F-150 1997-2004 Heritage edition.

If you have the “step down” side windows (see image below) you have the “new” 2004 version thus you will select the DECKED F-150 2004-current, bed length 5’6″ or 6’6″.

faq-step-down

NOTE: DECKED DOES NOT fit the full size four-door short bed (5’6″) Ford F-150 SuperCrew made from 2001 through 2003 or the similar sized truck in 2004 badged as the SuperCrew Heritage. The bed dimensions are just too small with the rounded tailgate. If you have any questions please give us a call so we can make sure you order the correct DECKED system.

Flairside-ford-150-300x157

I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado or 2007 GMC Sierra, I noticed that in your product list that two 2007 Silverado/Sierra’s show up. How do I know which Silverado/Sierra I have and which DECKED system fits my truck?

2007 was a transition year for Chevy and GMC, and as such, they produced old and new body styles in the 2007 model year with both a 5’9″ and 6’6″ bed. So, for a time, both body types were being sold as 2007 models.

If you have a 2-part headlight array and only modest body flare (see image), you have the older Silverado/Sierra, or “Classic” version. If this is the case, select the DECKED SILVERADO 1999-2007 or SIERRA 1999-2007 Classic edition, bed length 5’9″ or 6’6″.

silverado-sierra-classic

If you have a single-part headlight array with more significant body flare, (see image) you have the “new” 2007 version thus you will select the DECKED SILVERADO 2007-Current or SIERRA 2007-Current, bed length 5’9″ or 6’6″.

Where is the DECKED system being sold?

DECKED is sold exclusively through our authorized dealer network or through our on-line store at decked.com. You will have the option to locate a dealer in your area or have us ship you a DECKED system right to your front door.

What is the DECKED system made of?

Made of 100% recycled high density polyethylene (HDPE) that rests on a sub frame made of ~40 pounds of steel, the DECKED system delivers a true 2,000 LBS. deck load rating.

How do I drain my DECKED drawer after a tailgate party?

One of the coolest features of the DECKED system is that you can use your drawers as large traveling coolers. With our added drain plug accessory kit you can just park your truck on a flat surface, unscrew the plug, and let gravity do the rest. Once the water has drained, take a rag and wipe out any extra water, reinstall the plug, and you are ready to go! Note: unless you are Kareem Abdul Jabbar the drain plug location, on our standard bed system, is out of reach.

Does DECKED offer any suggestions on how to change the ramp angle of my tailgate?

We found this company, which makes an extension for your tailgate cables. This allows you to offset the ramp angle of your tailgate. We have not tested this product, but here is a bit more details so you can see if this will work for your needs. Hope this helps!

Rider Tailgate Accessories has developed an innovative new truck accessory called the Tailgate Lowering Links which, when added to the existing tailgate support cables on a truck, allow the tailgate to lay flat.

Can I load an ATV on the DECKED system?

Yes, the DECKED system can handle a true 2,000 LBS. deck load rating so feel free to load up that ATV, snowmobile, or moto. For loading an ATV or other 4 wheeled items, we’ve found that these Titan ramps work great with the DECKED system. Or for a motorcycle try this Titan ramp.

Does DECKED work with my bed rug?

Yes, DECKED does work with Bed Rug. Just be aware it will be a very snug fit, and initially the wheels will wear on the rug until they wear through enough to roll smoothly.

Here are T-Track Installation Instructions

INSTALLATION (7)

Where can I find a replacement installation instructions?

You can find all of our installation instructions under DECKED DOCS

Why do I need to install the drawer brace?

The drawer brace is sort of optional, but if you plan to carry heavy gear (100 Lbs or more in one drawer) then we recommend that you use the brace to reduce drawer side-wall deflection. If you want to mount the brace even with the deck when the drawer is fully extended, have at it. This will help the drawer deflection (but not as well as it would work if the brace were in the middle of the drawer) and keep the brace out of your way when loading/unloading gear.

Does DECKED have any cool or helpful videos?

Yes! We have a dedicated area for our fun and insightful videos. Click HERE.

Do I really need to read the installation instructions and get a buddy to help me?

The DECKED system has been built to ship in a manner that helps reduce costs to you. Unlike the rocking horse you got your kid for Christmas, the assembly process for DECKED is fairly straightforward yet needs to be done in the right order, so we recommend that you read the installation instructions. We made it as easy as possible: less words, more pictures. The DECKED system is pretty big and sort of heavy so YES, please get somebody to help you for just a couple of steps. We don’t want you to get hurt installing DECKED.

What tools do I need to install my new DECKED system?

You will need the following tools:

  • The installation instructions that came with your DECKED system, if you need another copy click here.
  • Adjustable wrench or ½” and 7/16” open end wrenches
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Pliers (needlenose will work best)
  • 3/8″ socket
  • 7/32″ allen wrench

In some cases you will need to remove the current tie-downs on your truck, replacing them with the hardware we have included, this process will require a:

  • Ford Super Duty (both series), 10mm socket or wrench
  • Current short bed Ford F150, T30 Torx driver
  • Toyota Tundra (short and standard bed), T40 Torx driver
  • Someone to help you lift the deck half assemblies into your truck bed

Do I have to drill my truck bed?

No way! We have designed and engineered the DECKED system to utilize your truck’s existing tie-downs. That’s the only valid way to achieve the engineering requirements.

How do I know if I need to install new tie-down mounts on my truck?

If you own a newer short bed Ford F-150 or a Ford Super Duty or a Toyota Tundra you will need to remove your factory tie-downs and replace them with the hardware we have included with your system.

INTEGRATION (5)

Is the Aluminum F150 Light Switch Compatible with DECKED?

The bed lights on the new aluminum F150 reside above the DECKED system.

The switch for the bed lights located on the left (driver’s side) bed wall do reside beneath the DECKED system; however, it is accessible by reaching to the left side of the ammo can in that location. You can trigger the switch here, or you can turn on and off with the switch located in the cab of your truck.

The box cleat system on the F150 also resides above the DECKED surface, however the ramp option for this system cannot be used in conjunction with DECKED.

Is DECKED Compatible with CARGOGLIDE?

Yes! CargoGlide makes product that are DECKED compatible.

*CARGOGLIDE Compatible SKU’s:

5 1/2’ DECKED Systems take CargoGlide CG1000-DM6348

SHIPPING (5)

Can the DECKED system be shipped to Canada?

We currently do not ship direct to Canada but we do have a growing dealer network. Currently, 4 Wheel Parts (four locations in Canada) is our authorized dealer. We are working to grow our Canadian dealer network, so stay tuned. To see our latest dealer list got to Find A Dealer.

Can I pick up my DECKED system up at a local dealer?

You bet. In fact we encourage you to go out and meet our dealers. These people love trucks just as much as we do. If we don’t have a dealer in your area then we are happy to drop ship it to you. We have made it as easy as possible to order online and have taken the sting out of shipping costs by offering you a flat rate.

Can the DECKED system be shipped via UPS, USPS, or FedEx?

No. We wish our DECKED system could fit in a shoe box, but at +/- 200 lbs this puppy is going to be shipped freight right to your front door or be picked up and installed at one of our dealer locations. Our accessories, if ordered, will ship using UPS.

How much does it cost to ship my DECKED system?

Shipping of a DECKED system anywhere in the continental U.S. is included in the purchase price of the system. DECKED accessories will ship separately using UPS and will be charged at prevailing rates based on your delivery address.

How long will it take to get my new DECKED system?

Once your order is processed, shipping will take 5 to 7 business days depending on how far away from Ohio you live.

STUFF YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE (8)

Can fine particles (like dust and really fine snow) get into the drawers?

Yes. The drawers are not sealed tight like a Tupperware lid, so some airborne particulates (dust and fine particle snow; the kind of snow that happens when the temperature is really cold), can get into the drawers, although not in significant quantities. This isn’t a common occurrence but it can happen. This condition will be worse if you don’t have a tailgate, or your tailgate is down. Lastly, if you don’t install the weatherstrips on the drawers this condition will be worse.

Do the drawers hit the tailgate?

No and yes. No in normal use cases but yes if the drawers are loaded >100 Lbs each (and depending on the ramp angle of your tailgate). The drawers are pretty stout and they can easily handle 200 Lbs each, but the bottoms of the drawers will sag slightly under big loads.

Why do the drawers only pull out 4′?

The DECKED drawers were designed to accommodate 200 Lbs each. When the drawer is fully extended that places a large/leveraged load upwards onto the deck. We chose a compromise that limits the extension but still minimized the height of the DECKED system and the deck itself. This also allowed for a taller drawer.

Will the metal bits in the DECKED system rust?

Yes. The topside hardware and all the metal parts of the DECKED system are coated with rust inhibitors or they’re made of stainless steel. That means that all these parts will rust slower……but they’ll still rust. We’ve used rust inhibitors that are beyond OEM specs, but they’ll still rust over time. The stainless steel will also rust even though it’s not supposed to.

Are Drain Plugs Compatible With My DECKED System?

The drain plug location, on the 6’6″ standard bed length, is out of reach. We missed that one in the design process. Unless you have 4′ long arms you cannot reach the plug to drain the water out of your drawer.

DECKED drain plugs are only compatible with SHORT (64.5″ in length) systems. They are NOT compatible with Standard (75.25″ in length) systems. Because drain plugs are meant to be placed in the cabside/driver end of DECKED drawers the length of Standard DECKED Drawers makes the end nearly impossible to reach. Placing the drain plug in the tailgate end of the drawer will cause it to drag on your tailgate when the drawer is loaded. Therefore we DO NOT recommend this accessory for Standard length systems.

To see if the DECKED system for your van or truck takes a short DECKED system (will fit drain plugs) or standard DECKED system (will NOT fit drain plugs), please check the ‘overview’ section in the product page or call us directly at 208.806.0251.

The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner via telephone or email on or about the defined contest end date. If the potential winner cannot be contacted within five (5) days after the date of the first attempt to contact him/her, the Sponsor may select an alternate potential winner in his/her place at random from the remaining non-winning, eligible entries.

In the event that a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, Sponsor will award the applicable prize to an alternate winner by random drawing from among all remaining eligible entries.
